Though, I’m not a big bird person, I like birds. I like photographing them and what not, but to sit and bird watch….not really my thing, but I do love ravens. I don’t know what it is. I mean, they’re not necessarily the prettiest bird out there. Not really all that colorful. They’re kind of simple. That could be what it is. Simple, on the larger side, and more powerful of the smaller bird species. Maybe to some of it, I can relate.

“Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter,
In there stepped a stately raven of the saintly days of yore.” ~Edgar Allen Poe~
When I was looking through pictures, thinking about what to post next, I saw these guys. They made me think of Edgar Allen Poe’s, “Nevermore”. When I hear this poem, or read it, I never really picture the everyday ravens that I’ve seen up to this point. I always pictured this larger, scarier, Halloween decor kind of bird. These birds fit that bill.
They were just big. Bulky. Flocked together. Black feather in this misty fog that graced the park. Walking with this confidence. Perching with this condescending aura. The kind of bird that you can picture taunting Poe in his poem.
It was such an entertaining scene to me. It made me smile and made the story wheels in my head turn. Most might equate the scene as something out of the movie, “The Birds”. Them, just lingering around. Perching in trees, perching on logs. Watching with content. Silently communicating. Waiting. Plotting. Soaking in the sun when it showed. Coming out of nowhere but that early morning fog. I could definitely think of a story or two for the scene they gave me, but for now…all I can think is “Nevermore”. Have a beautiful day and tomorrow.

“But the raven, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only,
That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour.
Nothing further then he uttered – not a feather then he fluttered –
Till I scarcely more than muttered `Other friends have flown before –
On the morrow he will leave me, as my hopes have flown before.’
Then the bird said, `Nevermore.'” ~Edgar Allen Poe~

Lovley pics. Raven’s are gorgeous birds but i think that about most birds as I love so much about birds. My favourite birds are magpies and starlings are my top most favourite out of any birds. Just because of there personality, the fact that they are so clever & they are so friendly towards people. Great blog. Lovley read. X

Thank you so much, Lisa. I had to look both those of up. They are very pretty birds. I’d have to say that my favorites are probably hawks and ravens.

Yeah I thought you might have had to look them up. Hawks are beautiful too. We get alot of them here in uk where we live. Very big birds of prey.

Yes 😀 I have heard of them, just wasn’t sure what they looked like. Hawks are big birds of prey. I think that might be part of the appeal. Not the prey part, but the big beautiful, powerful part.

Yes I agree Montana because that’s exactly the reason for me too. They are amazing to see when they are flying too, I personally love watching them when they are looking for prey & they just hover in the air very still. It amazes me to watch them, such beauty. 😊
